A... I am going to open an English blog, our tutor said we’d better keep journal every day to record what we harvest recently, and this can help us see the process of development. I see most of my classmates' blogs talking similar events, like Power of Making, Tomb of Unknown Craftsman, those current exhibitions, cuz we opened the blog almost at the same time.
Today was a rich day, kind of like experienced a brain storm. The first lecture we had this morning was made by a famous shoe designer, Marloes ten Bohmerm. I already saw her amazing work in Power of Making, her shoes looked not so wearable, they were more focusing on structure and full of architecture feeling. And all her shoes were handmade which takes ten times more than normal shoes. I couldn't believe those shoes have actual market, because they are not like other handicrafts that must be functional and not too weird to walked on the street. Her answer was simple: I just enjoyed making my shoes more creative instead of most industrial factory which just repeated the design. She believed that there were some rich people existed just simply like her shoes and would buy them. I felt her idea was really brilliant, even though she just simply explained how she pursued some factories to aware of her style, but I know how hard that would be. She also did some freelance like normal industrial designer and earned money then invest them into the project she really enjoyed. This is a great way to balance between your own ideal works with this commercial world. I really envy her!
This afternoon I had another lecture by one of the CCW's PHD leader, I searched his background and came to know a really academic guy with remarkable achievement. This lecture's main topic was about the meaning of research and the PHD level research. It was very academic, I had some problems to follow him, some words I was not familiar with, sometimes I understood every single word but my mind worked too slow to gather them together, so I guessed I lost lots of key meaning. Next time I would record the lecture, Though it was a very good one. As a master student, I think we do not like in BA, just simply finish a work, focusing on texture or appearence, we have to go deeper, research concept and be real original and creativity !
This night, Emma interviewed me about Chinese food, she really found a right person to talk with, I blablabla said a lot, and shared my mushroom chicken with her, I was not nervous talking like before, everyday I understand more, she is a really nice girl, I am so glad I have such a harmonious environment to settle down.
