结束了两天的Barnaby Barford workshop,百感交集,虽然Barnaby是个非常大男子主义,个人观点也特别浓重的人,但不可否认的是,他确实是个不错的艺术家,在他的激发和指导下,确实让我收获了很多。
我的创作点是“连接”,用手头各种材料来体现这一个点。早晨他一过来就把我教训了一顿,说我做的那一堆东西是十分钟之内就能出现的,what you think about this? why you doing this? Do you think it's beautiful?他批评我太注重形式上的美,并且总是用自己熟悉的相对漂亮的东西进行创造,他随手拿来旁边五金盒里两个生锈的门把手,对我说ok, this is your project now, try to join them, using your yellow thread, make them beautiful together. 于是半天我就开始了用线缠绕门把的过程,中途他又走过来说,I don't feel it's pretty yet,you still got two and half hour to make them the most beautiful things in the world,夸张地张着嘴巴形容。 最后三点,我们在学校进门的展厅举行了一个小展览,每个人阐述自己的创作思路和未来的改进方向,然后接收大家的评点。Barnaby还是很直白的告诉我,他对我的作品不够满意,he feel I haven't try really hard to make it beautiful. Those are Maiko and his advice---- Yesterday you said you like make beautiful things, but as you using nice materials it's easy to make something nice, I think what you need to do is try to use ugly stuff to make them somehow nice, to look into the material, discover their beauty and keep moving forward. Be brave and find the deep connection between materials, be focus instead of general idea. Also Maiko suggest: You have to always ask yourself why, for all things around you, why I like this material? Why it attracts me? Why I like to do that? And always trying to find the answers for them, by doing this I will understand more about what am I doing! So that I can push things as far as I can. Barnaby是个非常急躁的人,总喜欢对着我们不停地叫着,快快快,快快快!而且很喜欢强加上他自己的想法。虽然个人觉得他的作品不那么有意思,但不可否认,作为一个成熟的艺术家,他的思维和教学方式确实很能引导我们,好像是推着你让大脑飞快地转动,而不像别的艺术家,总是温和地欣赏你的每一个想法。这点让我觉得他很像大学时的梁老师,有时真的需要这样的老师来狠狠地打破自己自认为满意的象牙塔。 (作者:林逸心系伦敦艺术大学在读研究生)
