Luo Ke Xin (Kathy Luo), MA Chelsea Textiles I spent the most valuable time so far that I took the pre-master course from October 2011 to April 2012. The course makes a perfect bridging of the change of my academic study from fashion design (BA) to textile design (MA), and finally I got my dream place at Chelsea. And it not only gives a chance to make new friends who come from different areas but also it is a great experience in both study and living aspects before going to London. First of all, my knowledge of theoretical context of art and design has been improve a lot, and now I understand more about the Europe education institution during the pre-master course. My speaking improved a lot during these few months, especially in an I understand more deeply about the meaning of sketchbook and know how to make a creative sketchbook to show where my thinking is going. After I understand more about what is the process of a project, I will always ask questions to myself about why I make every decision in a design. All in all, the whole process is about self-study, accumulating the knowledge and experiences step by step. A sentence that I would like to recommend is---- never wait for the last minute to do anything.
From the previous work to the new work, I believe that I have more focus on the meaning of why I do this work. In the early works, I just did some practice with an idea which comes from a sudden thinking or without any reason. Through this course I know a designer should be serious and thoughtful. So in my new work I do more thinking about the idea, concept, and why I use my material. In my portfolio, I believe I have got so excited improvement. I can still remember that first time how I did my presentation to Dave, Sandra and classmates. I was so nervous, and did not know how to show my ideas in my works. However, now I can show my ideas with anyone in a clear logical language with more confidence. I know I should make the interviewer know who I am and my own option towards art and design work. I think there are really some different between local study and international study. The most different is the attitude. The best thing is learn in an international environment, our mind is open, we can learn from each other, I like studying in this way I can learn so much and remain my own feature and develop my ideas.
Mingshi Zhao, MA Camberwell Digital Art I find that the group critique on my classmates is really helpful, and I can find something that I have never known about my works, they evaluate the works from different perspectives, which have broaden my concepts and stimulate me to get more inspirations to improve my works. From the first portfolio to the final portfolio, I can get the feeling that I do have a big improve in the theoretical aspects and the thinking of the views are deeper and deeper. My concept is more sophisticated than before. In this course, teacher Sandra really helped me so much, she is a good teacher and responsible for every student in our class from many aspects. Not only the subject about the art and design she inspired me so much, but also the language and the attitude to the study and our inside mind. She gives us broaden view and space to think widely and deeply about our own works and also allow us different ideas from others, from this, we form the critical thinking gradually.
Qian Jiao (Viola Qian), MA Chelsea Fine Art The Masters Preparation Course helped me to improve my different kinds of abilities and skills, such as writing skill, speaking, independent thinking and self-learning ability. Also, this course helped me to develop a critical thinking method and academic English vocabulary. The course is very helpful to me, a deep impact on me. It prepared me well for when I enter the MA course. There are different visitors come to this course, they come from different fields, and brought different ideas. I think it is valuable for us to learn. They interpreted for us and give us different suggestions. When I did a presentation, I learned more, not only for my ability, but also for my confidence. Different visitors gave me different advice. I collected the information and improved my portfolio every time.
Actually, after these six months, I developed a habit of keep thinking and observing all the time. Currently, I keep exploring my idea, investigating more possibilities.
All in all, I want to thanks to my nice and patience teacher Sandra, and recommend this course to next students who want to choose this course. It brings a new life to me and let me understand how to analyse an art work or do my work with a critical and reflective thinking in the whole process.
I can use this to analyze my work and other people’s work, that is interesting because you can find some detail you never find before, and from these information can development a new theory, it can help me to continue doing my research and practice. 我现在已经毕业,对于这段时间的学习,我发现我对艺术的鉴赏方面有一定的进步,了解怎样可以从多方面来了解一个作品,Sandra很有耐心,在交流方面不再那么紧张,而且可以更好的表达自己。 |
